McGinnis Ferry Closure Detour Routes

McGinnis Ferry Closure and Expansion

On July 17th, Forsyth County announced that a portion of McGinnis Ferry Road will be fully closed from July 20th-26th. The cause for this is the addition of a new 72-inch storm drainage line. The road will be fully closed for 24 hours a day from the intersection of McGinnis Ferry Road, Jones Bridge Road, and Brookwood Road to the intersection of McGinnis Ferry Road and Sargent Road. Weather permitting, the closure will be in place until Sunday the 26th. See above for detour routes. This installation of the new storm drainage line is a part of the county’s larger McGinnis Ferry Road widening project that started last spring. As the road goes from two lanes to four lanes, the paved surface widens. This causes more rainwater to run off the road instead of getting soaked into the ground. This installation of the storm drainage line will help safely discharge the water so the surrounding land doesn’t erode or flood.

Tim Hortons

New Tim Hortons Open in Forsyth

On July 17th, a new location of the popular Canadian coffeehouse and restaurant chain Tim Hortons opened in Forsyth. This location, at 4938 Atlanta Highway, is now the second Tim Hortons location in the county. The Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce listed on their website that a grand opening celebration occurred on the day, where the first 500 people got free coffee for a month, along with other deals. The opening of this new Tim Hortons is signs that the rapid restaurant growth in the county only continues to scale with its population and commuter traffic. The addition also reflects the continued commercial investment along the Atlanta Highway corridor where new restaurants and retailer continue to open.
