Sutherlin Dog Shelter

FurKids Opens a New Shelter in Cumming

FurKids, Georgia’s largest no-kill animal shelter and rescue organization, has opened its new Sutherlin Dog Shelter at its Cumming headquarters. The organization hosted its grand opening for this new 15,000-square-foot facility yesterday, August 8th. Attendees were able to get guided tours of the facility, meet adoptable dogs, and experience a fun day with refreshments, face painting, giveaways, and more. This new shelter nearly doubles FurKids’ dog capacity, adding room for up to 135 more dogs. It will also have dedicated areas for adoption, enrichment space, and individual dog rooms. The addition of this facility is a significant nonprofit campus expansion in Forsyth, adding substantial regional animal care capacity to a growing region.

Forsyth Releases Its Final Proposed Budget for FY2027

On August 7th, Forsyth County released its final proposed budget for FY2027. The budget points towards another major year of growth-related investment, led by road, parks, public safety, and utilities. The county’s five-year capital plan includes roughly $168 million in road spending for 2027, with major projects such as the widening of Post Road, Old Atlanta Road improvements, and the next stages of the ongoing McGinnis Ferry Road development. Parks are also a major focus, including roughly $31.8 million for a Sharon Springs Park renovation and nearly $28 million for Big Creek Greenway boardwalk and trailhead work over the capital plan. Public Safety is another notable theme, with new fire facilities, a major training complex, and additional station investments planned. The county is also planning about $87 million in water and sewer capital projects in 2027, a key signal of how Forsyth is preparing infrastructure for continued residential and commercial growth.

Development Watch 👀

The Collection at Forsyth Tenant Rollout

The Collection at Forsyth ha snow completed its rollout of four major tenant that were announced to come earlier this year. In February, JLL — a global commercial real estate firm that handles leasing for The Collection on behalf of owner CTO Realty Growth — announced leases with The Cheesecake Factory, Warby Parker, Kimley-Horn, and Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Georgia Properties. At the time, the new deals brought The Collection at Forsyth to 95% leased.

Since then, all four have opened. The Cheesecake Factory was the last one, joining the development’s lineup just a few weeks ago in July. Warby Parker also opened up recently in June, while Kimley-Horn and Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices moved in to their spaces earlier this year.

JLL said when the leases were announced that all remaining tenants were expected to open in 2026, but no additional named tenants from the announcement are still awaiting an announcement. The complete rollout adds a major restaurant, a national retailer, and two professional-office users to the center, continuing The Collection’s shift towards a broader mix of everyday shopping, dining, and everyday services.

On The Radar 🔜

EōS Fitness Coming Soon to Forsyth

EōS Fitness is opening one of its first locations in Georgia. The 24/7 gym chain recently announced that it will be opening a new location at 700 McFarland Pwky, along with two more locations across Georgia. All three of these are set to open some time in 2027, according to EōS Fitnesses website. The arrival of this location will also bring the gym chain’s large-format fitness concept to the growing south Forsyth/McFarland corridor, offering another major health and wellness option for nearby residents. The project is also notable as another consumer-focused addition along McFarland Pkwy, an area experiencing continued commercial growth and redevelopment.

Major Entertainment Center to Break Ground This Week

Peachtree Puttery, a major new family entertainment center, is set to break ground on August 10th. It will be located at 2310 Peachtree Pkwy, and the total venue will be 31,800 square feet. Peachtree Puttery will feature 12 bowling lanes, more than 60 arcade games, an 18-hole mini gold course, 8 ax throwing lanes, 5 billiard tables, dining and bar options, and space for parties and corporate events. The project has been in development for several years, making the start of construction a major milestone. Plans have also shown retail and hotel development associated with the site. Once complete, Peachtree Puttery could become another regional entertainment draw for the growing Peachtree Pkwy corridor.
