Another phase of the major renovation project around Sexton Hall and Sharon Springs Park is moving forward. On September 10th, Forsyth County announced that beginning Monday, Sept. 14, visitors to Sexton Hall (one of two major Forsyth County senior enrichment centers) must use the new east-side parking lot while additional work is completed around the existing parking area. The work is part of the larger $52.7 million Sharon Springs Park campus renovation, which began earlier this year. Plans for the Sexton Hall portion include expanded parking, a new pavilion, raised garden beds, a new paved walking trail and improved connections between Sexton Hall and Sharon Springs Park. Sexton Hall itself will remain open during construction, though visitors should expect parking patterns around the property to continue changing as work progresses. The larger Sharon Springs Park project is currently expected to be completed in early 2028, weather permitting.

Drivers who regularly use Campground Road near SR 9 may want to start planning an alternate route. On September 10th, Georgia DOT - Northeast posted on their Facebook that starting on Monday, Sept. 28, Campground Road at SR 9/Atlanta Highway is scheduled to close for approximately 30 days as construction continues on the Georgia Department of Transportation’s larger SR 9 widening project. The closure has not started yet, so for now, traffic is continuing through the intersection normally, but drivers should expect a signed detour once the closure begins later this month. The project is expected to create some added travel time for people using Campground Road and the surrounding west Forsyth area. The 30-day timeline is approximate and could change depending on construction conditions and weather. The Facebook post has a link to more information on the project.

According to a recent FoCo Unplugged from the county, Forsyth’s newest round of SPLOST-funded projects is beginning to move from planning into actual design and construction. SPLOST, short for Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, is a voter-approved 1% sales tax used to fund major local capital projects. SPLOST IX, approved by Forsyth County voters in 2024, is the county’s ninth round of the program.

About 34% of the county’s share is planned for transportation, which County Manager David McKee recently said could amount to roughly $115 million if collections meet projections. The transportation pipeline includes 18 intersection projects and 12 sidewalk projects. One of the first project bundles includes improvements at Bannister Road and Elmo Road, an extension of Holtzclaw Road/Rowe Lane, and a Kelly Mill Road sidewalk.

But roads are only part of it. SPLOST IX is also helping fund the Sharon Springs Park renovation, Polo Fields master plan, a new Fire Department training center and major Big Creek Greenway repairs. The Greenway rehabilitation alone carries a $33 million budget, with detailed construction schedules expected after the design phase is completed. Expect SPLOST IX to become a recurring development story as individual projects move into bidding, design and construction over the next several years.

Another restaurant is joining the growing lineup at Forsyth Town Center. According to a recent permit filing, we have confirmation that Rōti Modern Mediterranean has leased a 2,124-square-foot space at 3125 Ronald Reagan Parkway, Suite 912B in the Whole Foods-anchored development. Rōti serves customizable Mediterranean-style bowls, salads and pitas. The company currently lists just one Georgia location, in Smyrna, on its official website, so the Forsyth restaurant would represent another step in its metro Atlanta expansion. Rōti has not yet announced an opening date for the Cumming location.

Georgia-based fast-casual restaurant Maepole is coming to Southard Exchange at Bethelview and Castleberry roadsin west Forsyth. Maepole’s official website now lists the Cumming restaurant as opening in Fall 2026 and confirms it will be the company’s first location with a drive-thru. Tomorrow’s News Today Atlanta first reported the Southard Exchange location and said the drive-thru format could become part of the brand’s broader expansion strategy. Maepole started in Athens and serves customizable bowls and plates centered around vegetables, grains, proteins and Southern-inspired sides. The company currently has two Athens locations and one in Atlanta’s Summerhill neighborhood.
