West Forsyth’s Southard Exchange is about to get its first open tenant. Chick-fil-A confirmed that its new Bethelview & Castleberry restaurant at 5580 Wren Street will open Thursday, Oct. 1 at 6 a.m. The restaurant will offer dine-in, drive-thru, mobile pickup, delivery and Mobile Thru service and is expected to create about 110 jobs. Local owner-operator Kristie Bergstrom will run the location, her second Chick-fil-A in the area. To mark the opening, Chick-fil-A is also donating $25,000 to the Atlanta Community Food Bank and will participate in the company’s program for donating surplus food to local nonprofits. There’s even an opening-day perk: customers who show up wearing cow spots or cow-themed attire can receive a free entrée or kids’ meal while supplies last. The opening is also a milestone for Southard Exchange, where 7 Brew, Maepole, Shake Shack and Fifth Third Bank are among the other announced tenants.

A sizable batch of Forsyth County roads is headed for fresh pavement. At its Sept. 22 work session, the Board of Commissioners approved a $9.38 million contract with Blount Construction Co. for the county’s 2026 Road Resurfacing Program. The official county recap describes the project as covering more than 50 miles of roads, while the original bid documents put the total at 55.31 miles. The $9,379,147.17 award covers the materials, equipment and labor needed to carry out the resurfacing program, according to the county meeting record. Unlike a major widening or new-road project, this work is focused on maintaining the network Forsyth already has, replacing worn pavement and extending the useful life of county roads. At more than 55 miles, though, the program is large enough that residents across multiple parts of Forsyth could see paving activity as the work rolls out.

Forsyth County commissioners advanced two transportation projects on Sept. 22, including a new traffic signal and a larger SPLOST IX corridor improvement. The county awarded $168,697 to Reedwick, LLC to install a traffic signal at SR 9 and Hopewell Road in north Forsyth. The county’s official work-session recap highlighted the intersection project as one of the meeting’s major transportation items. Commissioners also awarded Backbone Infrastructure, LLC a $692,500 preliminary-stage contract for SPLOST IX Transportation Bundle 5, which focuses on 1.32 miles of Old Atlanta Road between Melody Mizer Lane and Ronald Reagan Boulevard. Plans call for roadway widening, additional turn-lane capacity, a northbound dual left-turn lane, an extended southbound receiving lane and right-turn auxiliary lanes around Melody Mizer Road, Daves Creek Drive and Ronald Reagan Boulevard. The county’s capital plan budgets about $6.4 million overall for the Old Atlanta Road safety improvements, meaning this initial award is only the preliminary design-build stage of a considerably larger project.
