Big Creek Greenway
Big Creek Greenway Reopened and Updates
The Big Creek Greenway reopened on July 27th after being closed for 3 days due to flooding. The majority of the trail is now reopened for runners, bikers, or chill walkers to enjoy as they did before. However, a portion of the trail, specifically from the Bethelview Trailhead south to mile marker 8.1, is still closed due to a large fallen tree. The north part of the Bethelview Trailhead, from markers 8.3-10.3, also remains closed due to scheduled renovations. The board of commissioners also announced on July 26th that they approved a $38.7 million guaranteed maximum price for a rehabilitation project for the Greenway. The main part of this project is replacing the wooden boardwalk with a concrete material called PermaTrak.

Jeff’s Bagel Run Coming Soon to Forsyth
The popular New York-style bagel cafe chain, Jeff’s Bagel Run, is opening a new location in Forsyth this summer. The cafe will be located at 5610 Bethelview Road, at Steeplechase Plaza, replacing the old Bethelview Pharmacy space. The location will also be the second location in Georgia for Jeff’s Bagel Run. The chain prides itself on being fresh, selling bagels, bagel sandwiches, cream cheese spread, and coffee. They also boil their bagels instead of toasting them, making them as traditional as possible. The arrival of this cafe is just more proof that west Forsyth continues to grow faster than ever, especially with developments such as Southard Exchange coming soon next door.
Popular Rec Center to Temporarily Close for Improvements
The Dobbs Creek Recreation Center is going to be temporarily closed soon for parking lot improvements. The closure was approved by the City of Cumming back on April 21st, and it will now take place from August 3rd to August 9th, reopening on the 10th. The city is planning to make several improvements to the parking lot, including: replacing damaged asphalt, applying a seal coat to preserve the pavement, re-striping all parking spaces, adding parking lots to the lower overflow lot, and installing five large asphalt speed bumps to improve pedestrian safety. The construction company, Jasper Grading & Pipeline, was awarded the contract for $85,750 after the city received three proposals. After the improvements are done, the Dobbs Creek Recreation center will go back to being a popular spot for people of all ages to exercise and have fun.
